BOTULINUM TOXIN

Botulinum Toxin or Botox for short is an injectable product which is used to treat dynamic wrinkles and lines on the face. It works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscles, causing them to relax and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox is a protein made from botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that can cause temporary paralysis of muscles when injected.

How it works:
When injected into a muscle, Botox blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscle to contract. This prevents the muscle from moving, and the overlying skin appears smoother.

Botox is most commonly used to smooth out wrinkles and lines on the face, such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles but as an advanced Botox practitioner we are also able to treat the lower face to help slow down the signs of ageing.

Generally people will require a minimum of 3 areas to help with dynamic lines in the upper face these are commonly Forehead, Frown Lines and Crows Feet. As an advanced practitioner we are also able to assist in slowing down the signs of ageing by reducing some lower face movement in the mentalis, masseter, orbicularis oris, DAO and the platysma bands.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Q's

If the treatment is performed correctly and injections are made into the right areas, the results will look natural. The key to achieving natural results is understanding the intricate muscle structures under the skin and how they interplay to create our facial expressions. Leanne has been performing Botulinum Toxin injections for over 4 years now and is also an advanced practitioner so has a full understanding of facial aesthetics.

Results can take up to 14 days to be seen however most people see this within a week

Results from these injections will last approximately 3-4 months, depending on the individual. Touch-up treatments may also be performed 14-21 days this sometimes increases the longevity of the results. Further, many clients find that regular treatments 3-4 times per year improve results due to decreased muscle memory in the treatment area.

Botox is in general suitable for most people however with it being a prescription only medication it will only be prescribed for treatment after a successful consultation with our nurse prescriber. Its important to be realistic about the results Botox will only work on dynamic lines. If lines have become static botox will prevent them from getting worse and slightly improve them but will not completely be reduced.

Merz Bocouture is generally what we use in clinic and have done for 4 years. We use this particular brand as it has fewer proteins so more purer than Allergan Botox. This difference in protein content may lead to a potentially reduced risk of antibody production and resistance over time, making Bocouture a suitable option for individuals who have developed resistance to Botox or are sensitive to protein. As an advanced practitioner we can offer alternate brands upon request.
